13.1

Usually, this blog is mostly about Brennan and what he's up to. But my camera has been under the weather and is now getting repaired (thanks to the extended warranty I bought- always worth it). So I don't really have a lot of good moments in B's life lately. (But Saturday will be his 3rd birthday- so expect something!!) But today I write about ME!
This morning I woke up at 5am, got ready, headed west to Weston, FL and embarked upon my 2nd ever HALF MARATHON! That's right... 13.1 grueling miles of RUNNING! I headed out with 2 of my great girlfriends, Jules & Mindy. Mindy and I have been training together since about Sept. (not as well as we should, but training, none the less)
One of our major exercise caveats is that we have a difficult time "finding the time" to run, etc. unless we're "training." So it only seemed fitting that we find SOMETHING to do. So Mindy found this great race that cost $20!!!
It was a cool morning and warmed up as we ran. We ran into the sun for parts, came "near" the finish line with 6 miles to go, and hurt, but it was a GREAT morning. We struggled from about mile 9-12, but tried to keep shouting out words of encouragement throughout. Not only for each other, but to ourselves.
Mindy's post about this race was titled, "I run to eat." Well, I run for "hardware"!! That is, medals. I now have 3 medals (Expedition Everest, the Disney 1/2 marathon, and now- the Run for Tomorrow) and they sit in a drawer. I know that one day I will do something with these, so I'm very excited to get one. I feel that after 13.1 miles, the least I can get is a little something around my neck.
Today was a great reminder of how blessed I am that my body really is in such great shape. While I was definitely in pain by about mile 9, I could still move and push towards my goal. (Thanks to Jules for all the great words of encouragement!!)
After our race (and a huge breakfast, shower, and nap) Mindy and I treated ourselves to a massage. As the therapist massaged each part of my body, I tried to thank God for each muscle and the awesome abilities I have.
Oh, and we PRed!! 2:23!!!! Great job, girls!!!
And a special shout out to Mindy's hubby, Michael who came out with their 10 month old, Adam to cheer us on as we neared the finish. It's SO nice and motivating to have someone there to shout your name as you get near the end. Thanks, Michael!!!

Big Trucks!!!

Saturday, my friend Christie and I took the boys to a "Big Toy & Truck Extravaganza" at the park- for FREE. It was so cool! They had all kinds of huge trucks and machines for the kids to climb on and in. B's favorites were the GIANT front loader (the cab was easily up 7 feet) and the fire trucks!

Here is B practicing up on his skills working the front loader/bull dozer thing.
It was not an easy feat to get him down, especially since he didn't want to.
They had 2 fire trucks. Here is is between the cab and rest of the truck on one. Once again with the "Mr. Cool" look. (Did I mention they had hats too.)
He didn't want to walk around the inside of the fire trucks, he just wanted to sit in the seats. And be like a fire fighter.
Just chillin'.
Getting a little help with the hose from a nice fire fighter.
Having fun with his bud.

Sprinkler Fun & Busy Reader

Brennan loves playing outside in the sprinkler. It's not really a full fledged run through the sprinkler, but every time we go out, he wants me to turn it on. It's a nice way to stay cool on those HOT September afternoons.

Every night before bed we read about 5-8 books. Some times it's WAY more, but I've been trying to limit it so he actually gets to bed at a decent time. This is the end of Good Night Moon. He's becoming interested in the author/illustrator pictures. Maybe he'll get inspired.

For some reason my pictures came out sideways even though I rotated them. Sorry, just gotta turn your head I guess. ;0)

Stay tuned... I've got more coming from this week. And tomorrow we are going to "Touch a Truck!" (provided the rain holds off!)

Here are a few pictures from the past week... I'm trying to do better, so at least I got a couple of pictures from the week.

Last Saturday, Sept. 11 we made cupcakes for our bud Noah's 1/2 birthday. Brennan was a very good helper. He loved mixing the batter. Although, he had a hard time understanding that he had to wait for them to bake in the oven before he could eat them.

Thursday- Wearing his new "B" hat from Christie. He's definitely got the tough dude look down pat.

Yesterday we went by the Moreland's and Brennan and Adam had such fun playing. Yay for buddies!!! (And check out Adam's bottom teeth!!)

So... the summer is long gone for me (although the heat is still here) I've just finished my 3rd week of a new school year and getting into full swing. But I wanted to get back into this whole blog thing. So.... I thought I'd do a glimpse of our summer. Enjoy...

South Beach!! & Brennan's first race!

Last weekend, Brennan and I went to South Beach with my friend Christie and her little boy, Ryan! I know... it seems odd for 2 moms and their boys to go to SoBe, right? Christie competed in the Nautica South Beach Triathlon Sunday morning, makes more sense, right? It was a great and exciting adventure, and Christie did fabulously in her tri! Brennan even got to do a little competing himself. I signed him up for the Tot Trot, and he got a shirt, a race number, and a medal for finishing! His race was a little 50 yard dash on the beach. Here are some pics...

Ryan cheering his mama on...

B getting ready for his big race...

After crossing the finish line...

The happy finishers showing off their medals...

Good job Christie & B! (especially Christie!)

The new big boy room....

So B and I moved into our newer, more spacious place Easter weekend. And his room was my main focus for being finished. That's why the rest of the place looks horrendous. But I am (almost) finished with his room and thought I'd post the pics that I took.

His "big boy" bed!!
So far we're successful in staying in it to not only go to bed (with some playing along the way) but also all night long. And he hasn't fallen out, yet. He loves the alphabet tiles on the floor (and recognizes almost all of the letters- makes his teacher mommy VERY happy) but mostly he likes to take them apart.

The closet space...

He gets all of our closet space. And I'm so bad I take up most of both closets with my clothes. Need to do some spring cleaning!

The toy corner...
There will eventually be some shelves on the wall above the bookcase. But I was so glad to find some relatively inexpensive things to hold all of his toys and make clean up quick and easy!

Another view...

Another view of this side of the room, complete with a picture & autograph of "Bear" Bryant. I'm so excited about our new place!
